Now children’s pageant was one thing but who knew that there was a natural hair pageant for beautiful young ethnic girls to take part in?
The Natural Hair Network and Heritage Promotion are proud to present the Kidz Curlz 2015 Natural hair agent. In association with spreading the word about sickle cell, this unique event is taking place at the UK Centre For Carnival Arts next week Saturday. This event is an exceptional and creative way to teach the younger generation to appreciate and embrace their natural kinks and coils that they were born with, and to be bold in expressing their definition of beauty by taking to the catwalk.
In today’s society, the media image that represents the ethnic minorities on an advertising scale do not have the balance to represent the diverse culture in the UK. It is very rare that you see children of different nationalities in advertisements, voice overs and on national television that so many of us as parents allow them to watch, where they may see only one or two characters that they can relate to from an external perspective.
So we are excited to know that this event is going to not only showcase the upcoming generations as the beautiful and unique creations that they are, but he fashion & talent show will see girls from age 4-16 showcasing how beautiful natural hair is, which we hope boosts confidence and raises awareness that no matter what you look like from skin to hair, beauty in everybody shines from the inside out.
Tickets are still available for the event, where there will also be guest singers, and activist speakers on Sickle Cell Awareness as well as donations for the Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Support Group in Luton.
So if your in Luton, be sure to support the cause that we hope makes it’s way to London next year!

The 2015 Curlvolution show was the UK’s annual natural hair event where women of all nationalities and ethnicities were able to come together to network, socialise and to talk all things natural. Only in it’s fourth year, Curlvolution has begun an exciting revolution and community which focuses on natural hair and skincare products that are available not just in the US but also growing rapidly in the UK. By bringing worldwide brands and vendors together to the Hilton Hotel on Saturday May 23rd, allowed all coily hair females to heighten their knowledge on their mane with some of the most influential women within the haircare industry.
With vendors like Mane Divas, Beauty By Zara, Pieces By Keke, Super Funky Me, AyaMour, Fashion Fair and headline sponsors ORS and Beautiful Textures, amongst many more, the Hilton was buzzing with fabulous women who came to invest in their kinks and coils. From handmade hair and skincare products, to silk bonnets, having your make up done, to one off African inspired jewellery, to well known brands like Camille Rose, Thank God It’s Natural and Shea Moisture available on the day, had everyone socialising sharing experiences and swapping tips with other women.
With funny man and motivational speaker Action Jackson as the host of the event, this year the show had a variety of workshops and speakers to bring a diverse perspective on the world of natural hair and beauty. This year Curlvolution addressed the business side to the industry with the workshop titled “The Business To Blogging” hosted by UK’s Laila aka (Neffy Fro Fro) and Pelumi who discussed how bringing their natural hair journey to a digital platform has bought them immense success in the business world, and how achievable it is to attain. The make up master workshop delivered by US make up specialist Kluermoi was an incredible insight into the world of contouring and how to achieve the look that’s right for you. And for the new natural newbies that have decided to rock the fro, You Tube vlogger and natural hair expert Jenell Stewart gave a talk and shared her journey which was made insightful with tips and advice on washing styling and gaining that length!
The founders of Curlvolution are on to a good thing here when it comes to providing a growing platform to connect with others. The event embodies a place where free expression of natural beauty is embraced, honoured and empowered. With “going natural” becoming a trend in communities, all over the UK, the only way the Curlvolution show is destined to go, is up.

My hair is currently stuck at that mid length stage. The stage where it is no longer short enough to be considered quirky and cute but yet still far from the long sleek tresses I so desire. Consequently I am looking for solutions to speed up my hair growth.
As a health conscious 30 something year old, I do like to maintain a healthy diet. This involves the usual consumption of fruit, vegetables, chicken, fish and eggs. Many of these foods contain a good source of protein that should encourage my hair to grow and yet I am still left feeling dissatisfied and rather impatient.
My mother, bless her good intentions, has suggested a plethora of home remedies which she assures me will do the trick. This includes either a blend of curry leaves (think I prefer coconut conditioners over a curry spiced treatment) or frequently soaking my hair in rosemary waters. Admittedly, I was looking for something that at least sounded a little more scientific!
Many of you have been flaunting your super-fast growing hair on Instagram using Hairfinity, and some of you have asked me if I stocked this product or if I would be stocking it soon. So, after some careful research I finally got my hands on some…
What is it?
HairFinity is a nutritional supplement and has been carefully formulated from a combination of ingredients which include Biotin, Niacin, Vitamin A, C, D, B12, Silica and MSM. And unlike other fast growing hair miracles -it is suitable for afro-textured hair as well.
The HairFinity Hair Vitamins contain the basic nutrients required for overall health. The healthier we are in general, the better chance we have to grow healthy hair fast. The individual ingredients help to maintain healthier locks.
- Biotin helps produce Keratin which increases the hair elasticity and protects against dryness.
- Antioxidant supplements such as Vitamin C are able to stimulate hair growth by enhancing the immune function and improving scalp health. Finally,
- Vitamin D helps prevent against shedding, leaving a healthier and fuller head of hair.
Before you jump in…
It is important to remember that afro-textured hair is different to all other hair types. It is naturally dry and prone to breakage, making it harder to grow to longer lengths. It is important to ensure that this type of hair is in good condition before attempting to grow, otherwise it may just break. In order to get your hair in premium condition avoid products with sodium laureth sulfate, petroleum and lanolin. Apply regular treatments to add protein and moisture which will enable your hair to grow longer and healthier.
So I think I’m ready to give it a go. I have already made a conscious decision to reduce heat styling and to really look after my hair until I get it to the length I want. Wish me luck. Just wait, next season it will all be about the short pixie look again…!
Have you tried it? What do you think?
