Top Five Summer Styles For Caucasian Hair

With summer now in full effect in the UK check out our top five favourite summer hairstyles that you can recreate to make your own. Whether you are  hitting the festivals or a day out with friends, or if you are heading out for the night or on a date, all these styles are just what you need to enjoy the summer months with as they are fun and easy to recreate.

1- The Pony- The classic and easiest hair style to create within a matter of minutes. After a wash and condition, be sure to minimise towel drying to avoid frizz. Then using your favourite styling cream apply a small amount to your hair to blow-dry. Once secured to your desired length, for a catwalk matte finish add a dry shampoo to the ends of the hair for volume. We love the Lush No Drought Dry Shampoo which smells like grapefruits and limes.

2- Braid It Up- Whether you choose a traditional plait a french or fishbone plait, you will already be on trend as this look is sweeping the nation at festivals for that boho chic look. If you decide to go with a middle or side parting, be sure that before you braid you deep condition your ends to have them looking healthy. Once your chosen plait is in, the Keracare Silken Seal Sheen Spray is ideal way to add shine moisture and a nice gloss to the look.

3- The Updo- This style is great for short hair and dependent on your personality adds character. Make sure you have a good handful of bobby pins, and a bottle of L’oreal Professionnel Serie Pro Keratin Blow Dry Cream to hand to add volume into your blowdried roots, which will give flat edges. Then it is a simple case of taking small sections and twisting them towards the back and pinning. For formal occasions the neater and more uniformed the better, and for the “I’m not trying” look then leave some loose ends out.

4- Wash and Go- This is for every woman that gets on the train with wet hair. This is a quick and easy way to vamp up your “wet” look in the morning. If you wash your hair everyday, try a gentle shampoo and a moisturising conditioner like the Moroccan Oil Moisture Conditioner. This will coat and restore the oils lost from the hair and prepare it for the styling cream. Once the conditioner has been applied, simply run a straightening/styling cream throughout your hair and either scrunch for curls or leave to air dry for straighter hair. This makes getting out in a hurry a more fabulous way to do so.

5- Natural Curls- If you have fine medium or thicker hair then this style is a win all round as it will always hold definition and volume. If you want to loosen your natural curls then take a wide tooth comb with some mousse and create your ideal curls. And for those adding curls, if you take medium sections of hair and loosely wrap them around a large barrel curling iron that should do the trick to revealing those “I woke up like this curls”. Remember because the curls are “natural” avoid doing the entire head. Once complete, flip and use your favourite hair spray like the Giovanni 2Chic  Dual Action Leave In Spray  to complete, which also works amazing on heated styles.

Summer’s Here for Summer Hair

flower-731300_1280When it comes to the summer months in the year, it’s a time to showcase your new wardrobe for the picnics and music events, or the time to reveal your new body that you have been working on throughout the winter months. Either way summertime always brings out the best in people.

So when it comes to your natural hair here are five tips that are effective for adults and children to show off all your hard work in maintaining healthy kinks and coils, as well as allowing it to soak up the rays it needs without it being damaged.

Tip 1- The warmer the weather, the more moisture your hair will need. Dependent on the type of hair you have whether your curls are tight or loose, moisture is necessary in avoiding dry and brittle hair while out in the sun. Lighter oils such as coconut, almond and moroccan oils are good examples of providing the hair and scalp with a light coating to protect the root to tip while giving off a wonderful gloss and shine on your chosen hair style.

Tip 2– Sweat- From the month of May onwards, I always notice that because it is more humid in the evening when it’s time to go to sleep my body temperature is slightly higher than in the winter months. Your body temperature travels to your mane, which at when combined with products in your hair, your body heat almost acts as a steamer. Bed sheets with fabrics like cotton and polyester increase friction and dryness in pillowcases which increase the heat in your head to make you scratch and itch. Your hair need to breathe. So whether its plaiting or twisting it into smaller sections every night, or investing in a silk scarf or pillow case this will decrease frizz and dry hair that will make your mornings a lot easier to manage.

Tip 3- Chlorine and saltwater is not your friend- When hitting the beach or the swimming pools be mindful of the water you immerse your hair into. Salt and chlorine crystals weaken and dry out hair’s natural moisture. Make sure you deep cleanse and condition. Hair masks are a really good way to put back what was stripped and having to hand a water based styling product to style with makes all the difference when your ready to step back onto the beach.

Tip 4- Washing your mane more frequently is ok- Now that the sun is a like a free hairdryer, creating fabulous wash and go’s to get out and about with your friends are ideal for this time of year. Whether it be chunky twists or just taming it with a setting lotion or gel, will provide unique styles in an instant.

Tip 5- Wear your hair with pride- Summer is always a good time when women always either change their hair colour, invent new protective styles or rock a new cut for the season. Whatever your way of rocking your hair and however many times you may change it per week, never be afraid if someone asks you how you achieved that look to tell them. Let them know the products and process you used, while being encouraging as to how they can be able to achieve the very same look. You have to remember it always starts with “omg her hair looks so nice” which influences someone else to become more adventurous with their hair.

Upcoming Event:Kidz Curlz Natural Hair Pagent- Saturday June 27th @ UK Centre For Carnival Arts- Luton

Now children’s pageant was one thing but who knew that there was a natural hair pageant for beautiful young ethnic girls to take part in?

The Natural Hair Network and Heritage Promotion are proud to present the Kidz Curlz 2015 Natural hair agent. In association with spreading the word about sickle cell, this unique event is taking place at the UK Centre For Carnival Arts next week Saturday. This event is an exceptional and creative way to teach the younger generation to appreciate and embrace their natural kinks and coils that they were born with, and to be bold in expressing their definition of beauty by taking to the catwalk.

In today’s society, the media image that represents the ethnic minorities on an advertising scale do not have the balance to represent the diverse  culture in the UK. It is very rare that you see children of different nationalities in advertisements, voice overs and on national television that so many of us as parents allow them to watch, where they may see only one or two characters that they can relate to from an external perspective.

So we are excited to know that this event is going to not only showcase the upcoming generations as the beautiful and unique creations that they are, but he fashion & talent show will see girls from age 4-16 showcasing how beautiful natural hair is, which we hope boosts confidence and raises awareness that no matter what you look like from skin to hair, beauty in everybody shines from the inside out.

Tickets are still available for the event, where there will also be guest singers, and activist speakers on Sickle Cell Awareness as well as donations for the Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Support Group in Luton.

So if your in Luton, be sure to support the cause that we hope makes it’s way to London next year!
